OIL MODIFICATION

Ma ority or the crude oll ootalned trom pressing or solvent extraction contains Impurites and these are to be removed to make the oil suitable for human consumption.

Depending on the type of oil, the prearation of seeds and extraction process used, vegetable oil contains various impurities like:

  • Naturally occurring compounds like pigments, phosphatides
  • Oil Degrading products like peroxides, FFA, ketones, aldehydes etc..

Due to the high percentage of Free Fatty Acids (FFA) in Palm Oil, it needs to be treated differently, hence Palm Oil is Physically refined.

Veendeep’s most modern refinery is used for capacities ranging from 30 TPD to 1000 TPD.

PRE TREATMENT & BLEACHING

Crude Palm Oil contains phosohatides. To remove these the crude oil needs to be pre-treated by adding Phosphoric acid.

Pre-treated oil is then mixed with bleaching earth and pumped through the Bleaching Plant. The main purpose of bleaching is to remove coloring maters by absorption to obtain
desired color and remove traces or metals and pigments.

  • Uniform holding time of the oil-earth mixture in the bleacher
  • Oil filtration in hermetic leaf filters that require no maintenance
  • Savings of labor, floor space and low bleaching earth consumption
  • Accurate and convenient metering of oil and earth tor obtaining quickly oil of desired color.
  • No mechanical agitators, hence maintenance free .
  • Oil content not greater than 24% in spent earth cake.

DEACIDIFICATION

Deacidification (Deodorizing) is the final stage in Physical refining process and is used to
free the bleached oil from free fatty acids

Bleached oil is deaerated and then heated to deodorizing temperature by high pressure
steam

  • Heating and cooling of oil is done under vacuum ensuring high quality and no side products.
  • Efficient heat recovery of more than 80% ensuring low energy consumption.
  • Shallow bed design for intricate mixing of steam and oil.
  • Efficient scrubbing of the fatty acids for low carryover to the hot wells.

FRACTIONATION

Fractionation is a physical modification process wherein vegetable oil like palm oil is separated into fractions or olein and stearin by the crystallization properties of oils.

Veendeep has adopted and developed the dry fractionation process operating batch-wise, as opposed to centrifugal separation. This process has no harmful chemical additives, no contamination of oil, produces no effluents, and has no oil loss. The dry fractionation process can be broadly classified into Crystallization Process and Filtration Process.

Design Advantages

  • Keeping the fat/oil at a controlled temperature in large tanks with slow stirrers to allow crystallization separation of the formed crystals. Crystals form and build into aggregates of several millimeters in diameter.
  • The slurry is pumped through a membrane-filter press for separation of the olein and stearin fraction.
  • The stearin cake obtained from the membrane filter press is melted in the stearin-melting tank below the press, which also acts as a stearin intermediate tank, prior to storage or packaging.
  • Small ΔT between water and oil prevents shock cooling.
  • Accurate control of temperature during the holding stage.
  • Specially designed agitator shaft with top and bottom support on bearings.
  • Adequate area of filter for filtration.
